The studio during the refurbishment

Through years of neglect and lack of funds, the Grade II* Listed building of Porthmeor Artists Studios and Fisherman's Cellars had fallen into a poor state of repair.  The total refurbishment used traditional methods such as scantle slate roofing and lime render and pointing to maintain the character and appearance of the building.  Where possible materials were reused but where necessary replacement materials were sourced locally.  Timber was grown and milled in Cornwall and sand was taken from the local beach and washed for lime rendering.

The works were carried out in two phases to allow the artists and fishermen to continue with their works with minimal disruption.

The end result was such a success that the project has receiving many awards for conservation works for achieving the very high standards set for sustainability and a National award as Considerate Constructers.
